Preschool

Mi Escuelita Bilingual Preschool is included as part of the tuition for all full time childcare student between the ages of 3 – 6 years of age. We offer a limited number of preschool only positions for those families seeking a quality preschool experience for their child, but who do not need full time childcare.

Social development is a vital part of the preschool experience.  Education alone will not raise citizens that are competent to face what the future has for them with integrity and confidence. We strive to develop independent global thinkers.  Children should be guided to learn to make right choices for themselves. This is integrated into every part of our day and taught directly through songs, books and games.  We work diligently to promote pro-social behavior through example and direct instruction.

Typical Day at Mi Escuelita Preschool

8:50 - 9:00  Students arrive (full day students come down to school). Put away their coats, and find their name of the table, for the daily name activity. When they have finished their activity they go to the circle to read from book bins.

9:10 –  9:30  Circle Time – This consists of songs, music, dance, pictures, games and stories. Students will begin to understand language through visual cues and teacher assistance.

9:30 –  10:00  Centers & Work Activities – These activates are more structured than choice time and strive to teach vocabulary, language structure, cultural adaptation and academic skills.

10:00 – 10:30  Snack & Outside Activities (or Gross Motor Development inside) – Outside activities provide students an opportunity to practice their language skills in an informal social setting with their peers as well as develop gross motor and social skills.

10:30 – 11:00  Daily Spanish Focus – This is where we model and learn Spanish as a Second Language.  Spanish is also constantly model by at least one teacher who speaks Spanish through out the entire class.

11:00 – 11:40  Choice Time – Children are free to choose and explore the classroom environment.  We have activities that are based on our themes and provide the opportunity to practice all aspects of development.

11:40 – 12:00  Circle Time – The final circle time of the day ties together our theme and current vocabulary.  This is another time for students to practice language through song, movement and visual cues.

FULL DAY CARE

Children who are in full time care may arrive as early as 6 am and stay as late as 6 pm.  We offer early morning activity time, serve health and nutritious meals monitored by the USDA and a stimulating afternoon program.

Language Learning

Preschoolers in our program have constant access to language learning in both their native language and in Spanish. Students will have two constant caregivers one that will always model English and one who will always model Spanish. The caregiver reads, talks, sings and interacts with the students in the caregivers native language. This will give child the chance to develop the brain pathways at an early age, facilitating language learning. We believe that this early language learning is vital to the development of young minds and to global citizens.

In our preschool time students receive %50 of their time in English instruction and %50 of the time in pure Spanish instruction. In this way students are using Spanish not just as a foreign language, but as a way to learn other subjects and interact with other students and teachers.
